Welcome: Dr. Tainá Garcia Maia and Dr. Eline Wærp.

We are pleased to welcome our new postdoctoral researchers at FAU CHREN:  Dr. Tainá Garcia Maia and Dr. Eline Wærp.

Dr. Tainá Garcia Maia is a postdoctoral researcher at CHREN since May. She has a PhD in Law (summa cum laude) finalized in 2023 at the University of Münster and at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. She has a Master’s degree in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the University of Oslo. Dr. Garcia Maia has worked as a researcher at the University of Münster, on the ERC-Consolidator Grant project “Correcting Inequality through Law”, as a visiting scholar at the Brazilian Supreme Court, a visiting professional at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and as special adviser at the Permanent Mission of Brazil at the United Nations in New York.

 

Dr. Eline Wærp is a postdoctoral reasearcher at CHREN since July. She is focusing on the digitalization of EU air border controls and its human rights implications. She has a PhD in migration studies from the Department of Global Political Studies at Malmö university, where she wrote her dissertation on the European Border and Coast Guard Agency’s (Frontex) production of a securitized border knowledge. Her research interests include irregularized migration, securitization, and EU border controls. Through her research she strives to have a positive societal impact by challening dominating discourses and practices and questioning the taken for granted.
