She is also a Visiting Research Scholar at the Law Faculty of the Universität Hamburg (in the Area of European and International Law). Previously, she was a Lecturer in Law at Universitat Ramón Llull in Barcelona, and a Global Governance FellowD at Institut de Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals. Gemma holds a Bachelor in Law and a Master in International Law from Universitat Ramón Llull, a joint Master in Legal Research from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, Universidad de Deusto and Universitat Ramón Llull, and a DPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford.

Gemma is an interdisciplinary scholar specialising in the legal structure of global governance and the global legal order emerging at the intersection of domestic, transnational and international law. She is particularly interested in exploring the transformative dynamics and structural nature of the global legal order, understood as a multilayered legal system. Gemma’s current research agenda is designed to provide an all-encompassing theory on the political and legal structure of the global legal order, and the global reach of courts’ transformative powers concerning the multilevel policymaking required by global events such as international crises.
