Since January 2022, Ingrid Leijten (1984) holds the chair of Dutch and European constitutional law at Tilburg Law School. She studied law and political science at Leiden University and Columbia University in New York. She previously worked as assistant and associate professor in Leiden and as a guest professor at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen-Nuremberg. Ingrid Leijten’s main research interest concerns the changing meaning of fundamental rights against the background of broader (comparative) constitutional law developments. Fascinated by the ever-intriguing role of rights in relation to the different state powers, she investigates the internationalization and constitutionalization of public law. Overall, her aim is to contribute to discussions on the legitimacy and effectiveness of the modern constitutional and administrative state, both with regard to specific rights issues as well as on a more structural and theoretical level.
